The southwest Potomac waterfront – known as the Wharf – is host to Michelin-star restaurants, bars and new luxury apartments. However, it was not always like this. Through the residents of DC, we learn of the drastic development changes at the Wharf and how they are expanding to DC’s other river, the Anacostia.

    Hamid Kerim, a Uyghur asylum seeker from East Turkistan, shares his story of escaping China at the onset of the Uyghur genocide. While he still has family in detention camps in mainland China, Kerim became a first-time restaurant owner to make a new life in the US. Kerim shares Uyghur culture through his food and heightens awareness of the atrocities committed against his community.
